Reviews from Amazon.com
Now in its fifth edition and printed in seven different languages,
Jeavon's book is considered a classic in the field (literally) and has
brought about a kind of green revolution in food production around the
world. This book is based on Alan Chadwick's biointensive gardening techniques.
It will show you how to raise enough fresh, healthy, organic vegetables
for a family of four on a parcel of land as small as 800 square feet! Nothing
could be more fundamental to the needs of an increasingly crowded world
than food. Jeavons and the group he heads, Ecology Action, are making a
quiet but earth-shaking revolution in how people raise nutritious food.
If you have a small, flat rooftop, access to a bit of open space between
your house and your neighbor's, or any small patch of land, here's the
ultimate how-to manual for making the most of it to raise your own food,
including ways to enhance soil fertility and productivity, non-chemical
pest controls, where and when to plant what in your climate or location,
the tools you'll need, and the problem-solving skills essential to success.
This "ground-breaking" book is used by gardeners around the globe and is
as hopeful, inspiring, and motivating a gardening book as has ever been
written. --Mark Hetts

Permaculture Guild
This book offers one of the most most comprehensive, down-to-earth
strategies for the much bandied-about term ìsustainability.îPermaculture
is an elegant integration of designs to sustainably provide for human needs.
These designs are based on natureís patterns and energy flows. Readers
will gain an understanding of this natural design approach through principles,
site design methodology and examples.
A goal of permaculture design is to create self-supporting systems for
providing soil fertility, water, energy, and food. The book concludes with
community-based networking strategies for continuing to help each other
apply this practice in our evolving lifestyles.

An inspiring book! For those of us searching for an ecologically
responsible lifestyle amid urban and suburban insanity, Bill Mollison has
a real and exciting answer. This book is full of helpful advice presented
in a very readable way. The groundwork philosophy of permaculture is laid
first, and the book moves from there to the practical business of actually
designing one. The emphasis is on letting various plant and animal species
work together as much as possible, to form a basically self-sustaining
system from which people can reap a continual harvest, not only of food,
but of interest and self-respect. I can only hope that more people happen
upon this book as I did and are themselves inspired to create a fulfilling
life for themselves and their children.
Reviews from Amazon.com
There have been many articles over the years about the benefits of
composting for gardeners, but living in the city without a yard, this reviewer
never really thought it was something that would apply to me with my handful
of flower boxes and potted plants outside. Joke's on me! This book tells
you everything you need to know about composting and household refuse,
and most importantly, how to get STARTED, and will be enough to convince
you to finally get organized and go for it.

If you have a home, an apartment, a garden, or a pet (or, in some cases,
housemates or tenants), you've probably got pests. And if you want to control
pests, there's no need to poison yourself. While the Green Revolution and
DDT and other pesticides dominated the world of agribusiness, thoughtful
scientists world-wide were simultanously and silently working on "Integrated
Pest Management", which is often as effective as pesticides at reducing
or eliminating pests. From ridding your apartment of cockroaches to dealing
with the regional deforestation threats of Gypsy Moths, this is the authoritative
book on how to control pests by using the natural mechanisms of control
that have kept our planet from being savaged, prior to our human disruptions.

Excellent resource for Integrated Pest Management
This book was an invaluable source of information for me when I was
writing a proposal to my Homeowner's Association about how we could implement
an IPM program in our community. FYI - the Board of Directors of the HOA
accepted the proposal and the neighborhood is now a safer place for our
residents.
