Matt and Brenton have more than 30 years of combined local experience with organic gardening and landscaping. From 1988-98, they worked in the landscape industry, and together at Isla Vista Parks District for six years. As housemates, they shared a roof and a garden for several years and have known each other for 16 years. People often ask them if they are brothers.

Island Seed & Feed was created, developed and operated by Phil Boise and Ellen McLaughlin from 1988 through 1998. With current owners Matt & Brenton, Island continues to be a locally owned and operated retail business.

Our management team also includes the continuing advice and support of Island founders and ten-year employee (and Island's gifted logo artist), Jon Soutar.

Our Strategy

We are committed to the Island tradition of high quality service in supplying the finest organic gardening and natural pet products. We are guided by principles of urban sustainability, organic horticulture, and community responsibility.
